Our silent movie tradition returns! This year, Friday at 10 pm Arisia Films will present The Hunchback of Notre Dame , in an early adaptation from Universal Studios. Lon Cheney Sr. plays the title role. The film will be accompanied by our live organist, Jeff Rapsis, who will give a short talk about it in advance.
Matthew is a piano rocker from Boston MA. He has been playing the piano since age 5, discovered electronic music at 12, and made it his career in 1999. He has played at the Grand Ole Opry, been quoted in Rolling Stone. He has been playing piano rock full-time since 2007. Come dance with the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) at a Renaissance
Ball on Sunday afternoon! We will be doing many types of dances: from the
formal and elegant to the bouncy and energetic. No experience or partner
necessary. All dances will be taught, so everyone will be able to join in
the fun! Live music will be provided by the world famous Waytes of
Carolingia. Medieval or Renaissance garb is welcome if you have some (and
will certainly add to the atmosphere) but not required.
Arisia is proud to host the Carl Brandon Awards once again. This ceremony is giving awards to books published in 2011.
The winners of the 2011 Carl Brandon Society awards are Tenea D.Johnson, who received the Carl Brandon Parallax Award for her novel Smoketown, and Andrea Hairston, who received the Carl Brandon Kindred Award for her novel Redwood and Wildfire. Congratulations to the winners!
